How Do You Control Wedding Costs?
It happens all the time…I sit down with an excited bride and groom to be, and they have no idea what their vision costs. Luckily they’ve hired the best Phoenix wedding planner! Because I love getting to know a client, we chat about how they met, where they went on their first date, who said “I love you first”, and how their proposal came about. I ask what their wedding wish list includes. And then we talk about the dreaded topic: budget. How much are you willing to invest in this most important day of your lives? And I no longer am surprised when their number does not match the vision they have previously described to me.
So, I flip over my paper and give them a rough idea of what things cost. Photographers start at $ and go up to $. We run through the entire list and as their eyes grow wider, they ask, how can we possibly stay within our budget? And this is where an experienced planner can earn their money!
Tip #1: Invite Fewer Guests. Simple, right? Less people = lower cost all around. Less food, drinks, tables, chairs, linens, centerpieces, invites, favors…
Tip #2: Choose Your Venue Wisely. Because some venues include many of the basics—tables, chairs and linens, while others do not. And they may have catering and bar in-house. Depending on where you live, this may prove to be more affordable, but may not. ASK questions and don’t rush to sign your contract. And don’t be afraid to negotiate especially if you’re getting married on a Friday, Sunday or during their off-season.
Tip #3: Prioritize. You have many vendors to secure and items to purchase or rent. So putting them in order of importance can help you stay within your budget without sacrificing the most important items.
Tip #4: Stick to your Budget. Resist picking up those cute small décor items that will get lost on your wedding day. Because those “small” items add up! You probably don’t need the personalized cocktail napkins or mints.
Tip #5: Listen to your planner. This is not the first wedding she’s planned. Because you’re paying her for her advice. And yes, it’s your wedding, but an experienced planner should share her opinion and have your best interests (and pocketbook) in mind.
